A field guide to…

Our Wedding

October 19, 2024

GLEN ELLEN, CALIFORNIA

Dearest Guest,

This might be a little crazy, but we've made the decision to tie the knot right here at our homestead this fall. The idea of gathering all the wonderful people who've played significant roles in our lives over the past three decades (yes, you!) in a place so dear to us was irresistible. Moreover, it felt like the ideal opportunity to introduce you to all the things we love about our life together here in Sonoma County.

Please join us for a magical evening of celebration filled with great food, wine, music, and company. Our wish is for you to be present, so please leave the kids (under 13) at home and enjoy your evening on the farm.

We look forward to seeing you in October!

Love, Kelsey & Cooper

NOTES TO HELP GUIDE YOUR TRIP:

  • With four major airports within a two-hour drive and a local option, choosing the right airport will ensure a smooth journey to Glen Ellen. This guide provides essential insights to aid in your decision-making process.

    Major Airports

Within a reasonable driving radius, four major airports stand out: San Francisco International (SFO), Oakland International (OAK), San Jose International (SJC), and Sacramento International (SAC). Each presents distinct advantages:

SFO (San Francisco International) For those eager to explore the vibrant offerings of the Bay Area before venturing into wine country, SFO is the prime choice. Plus its extensive flight options make it ideal for travelers seeking convenience.

OAK (Oakland International) If minimizing travel time is a priority, OAK is the optimal selection. Situated closest to Glen Ellen, it offers a shorter drive, ensuring prompt arrival at your destination.

SJC (San Jose International) and SAC (Sacramento International) Travelers favoring smaller, less congested airports will find SJC and SAC appealing. These airports provide a more relaxed atmosphere and streamlined navigation, enhancing the overall travel experience.

    Local Option

STS (Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport) Nestled in the heart of Sonoma County, STS offers a charming, intimate gateway to the region. While slightly pricier, it boasts unique advantages, including direct flights from select hubs. Notably, Avelo Airlines provides direct connections from Portland (OR), Boise (ID), Las Vegas (NV), Burbank (CA), Pasco Tri-Cities (WA), and other destinations. Moreover, Alaska and American Airlines extend their services to STS, ensuring accessibility from various locations.

  • Arrival at Major Airports

For travelers arriving at larger airports such as SFO, OAK, SJC, or SAC, renting a car is recommended for optimal mobility during your stay. Securing a rental car facilitates seamless exploration of the surrounding areas and ensures convenience for excursions beyond the immediate area.

    Arrival at STS

Alternatively, visitors arriving at STS can conveniently use ride-sharing services such as Uber or Lyft to navigate the local terrain during your visit.

    Wedding Day Logistics

On the day of the wedding, a dedicated shuttle service will operate in a continuous loop from downtown Glen Ellen to Wild Hare Homestead. This service eliminates concerns regarding transportation along the winding road to the farm, ensuring hassle-free access for attendees.

  • Shuttles will run in a loop from the Jack London Lodge parking lot at 13740 Arnold Drive, Glen Ellen, CA 95442 to Wild Hare Homestead between 2:30 - 4:00 PM. Please arrive for the shuttles on time, as there is no parking on site.

Shuttles will return down the hill, in a loop, after the party between 9:45 - 11:00 PM.

  • Whether you seek the rustic charm of a lodge, the opulence of a spa resort, or the tranquility of camping under the stars, this guide equips you with the knowledge to make an informed decision tailored to your preferences. Embark on your adventure with confidence, knowing that your chosen lodging awaits, ready to enhance your experience in this captivating region.

With diverse options—from hotels to Airbnbs to campsites—catering to various preferences and budgets, understanding the unique offerings of each venue is essential for ensuring a fulfilling experience for every adventurer. Most importantly, book promptly as October is harvest season and it gets busy.

    Accommodation Options

The Jack London Lodge Nestled in the heart of Glen Ellen, the Jack London Lodge is historic and charming. Positioned within proximity to key attractions such as tasting rooms, Jack London State Park, and esteemed dining establishments (Bib Gourmand award winner, Glen Ellen Star), this lodge offers unparalleled accessibility to the area's highlights. Noteworthy is its adjacency to the Jack London Saloon, a historic watering hole frequented by the renowned author himself. To secure accommodations within our room block, call to book before July 18th.

P.S. - Many rooms here have two queen beds, so if you’re traveling in a group and looking to split cost, this might be a good option for you!

The Flamingo Resort and Spa For enthusiasts of mid-century aesthetics and indulgent relaxation, the Flamingo Resort and Spa presents an enticing option. Situated in Santa Rosa, a brief 20-minute drive from Glen Ellen, this establishment exudes retro charm and offers a myriad of amenities, including crystal punch bowl cocktails and rejuvenating spa treatments. While transportation to the wedding shuttle will be required, the strategic location of Santa Rosa enables exploration of nearby wine regions such as Healdsburg, Russian River, and Dry Creek.

    Bougie Picks

For those seeking a luxurious retreat, several esteemed establishments beckon:

    Olea Hotel in Glen Ellen

    Gaige House in Glen Ellen

Kenwood Inn and Spa in Kenwood

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa in Sonoma

    Camping Options

Embracing the allure of the great outdoors, camping enthusiasts can find solace in the nearby Sugarloaf State Park. Just a short 20-minute drive away, this natural haven offers regular and premium camping sites, providing an affordable and immersive experience amidst pristine wilderness.

NOTE: Travelers considering accommodations in Napa Valley should be mindful of the scenic but winding drive through the Mayacamas Mountains. This route may pose discomfort to those unaccustomed to mountainous terrain, particularly individuals hailing from flat landscapes.

  • Embark on a gastronomic journey through Glen Ellen and its surrounding regions, where an array of culinary delights await discerning palates. From rustic roadside eateries to sophisticated cocktail bars, below we unveil a selection of esteemed establishments, each offering a unique culinary experience bound to tantalize the taste buds.

Golden Bear Station (Kenwood) Featuring some of the best homemade pizza dough and pastas we’ve ever had, this roadside spot is husband-and-wife team Heidy He and Joshua Smookler’s second restaurant in the area. Make reservations and get the basque cheesecake.

Valley Swim Club (Sonoma) We aren’t sure how you’ll choose between the crab sandwich and the fried cod with pickled pepper coleslaw so you should probably just get both — in fact, bring everybody and order the whole menu at this California clam shack. Oh, and the Straus soft serve is not to be missed.

Grossman’s Noshery and Bar (Santa Rosa) If you’re looking for brunch/lunch with a cocktail this is your spot. Located in old town Santa Rosa, this New York-style Jewish deli is central to cute little shops and antique stores. Fill up on falafels, pastrami, babka french toast, knish, hot dogs topped with “deli debris,” and seasoned fries, then shop for cute stuff you don’t need!

Les Pascales (Glen Ellen) If you’re staying in town, walk over in the morning and grab yourself an almond croissant, a coffee, and whatever else strikes your fancy. You’ll feel like you just walked into a French patisserie.

Starling Bar (Sonoma) The creative cocktail list (and hidden cocktail list) are just FANTASTIC, plus there’s dice. Some of our favorites include the Pica Pepper Margarita, Hibiscus Paloma, Dick’s Fizz, Bacon Bourbon Sour, and Italian Greyhound. This place is worth the stop if you’re on your way to historic Sonoma Square.

The Beacon at The Outpost (Sonoma) Once you’re in Sonoma Square, visit this moody, speakeasy style cocktail bar for cool vibes and stiff drinks. You’re right in the heart of it all, so take a stroll afterward and soak up all the California history.

  • We invite you to embrace our “botanical garden party” theme by choosing attire such as:

Botanical-Inspired Prints: Delicate floral patterns, leaf motifs, or prints echoing the lush foliage of a verdant garden.

Earth Tones: Embrace a color palette inspired by the natural world, including earthy tones such as sage green, mossy brown, soft beige, and muted floral hues.

But above all, wear whatever makes you feel pretty and comfortable.

Finally, we will be outdoors in Northern California in mid-October, so you can expect the unexpected. Please come prepared with a jacket. Comfortable shoes (or at least a change of shoes) are also highly recommended.

  • Guests are kindly reminded that their presence at the wedding is cherished as the ultimate gift. We would also encourage you to first to make a donation to the Mayacamas Volunteer Fire Foundation in lieu of a boxed gift.

However, for those inclined to contribute to the couple's culinary or honeymoon pursuits, this segment provides guidance on thoughtful gift options:

If you’d like to help us take our cooking endeavors to the next level, we are registered at Sur La Table and Crate & Barrel.

If you’d prefer to help us with our honeymoon (we’re venturing to Milan and the Alps!), you can send a Venmo to @Cooper-Johnson-667.

As the couple prepares for their honeymoon adventure, extend a special note of encouragement to Kelsey, who has yet to be trapped on an aircraft with Cooper for an extended period of time. Your support is appreciated ;)
